A bulb story Community Project - St. Stephens Primary School Whilst working on site at St. Stephens Primary School last summer we observed the children running through a raised bed beneath two large trees, destroying anything growing and compacting the soil. During a routine project meeting this bed was mentioned, and we decided the best way to engender a feeling of respect was to involve the children with its re-development. Spring did this by providing the labour and around 800 bulbs, which was enough for every child to plant a bulb of their own. Ken Davies, the community co-ordinator, sold tickets (3 bulbs for 50p) - and the children and their parents descended on the site, despite being one of the coldest days of the year. Four months on the daffodils are emerging and the children police the area ensuring that the bulbs get a chance to flourish. The money raised from the project then went towards a new kit for the school football team.
